Small detached house, with the internal area of a studio flat, situated in a quiet backwater of Madeley, just over a mile from historic Ironbridge, in Telford. Built 120 years ago as the bake and wash house to the three cottages fronting Bridle Road.
If you are happy with small living, then this could be worthy of your attention. This is a detached, red brick building, built around 1900, as the bake and wash house for the adjacent 3 cottages.
The property is quaint, but fully modernised, with double glazed front door and windows, along with combi fired gas central heating. To keep things bright, LED lighting is fitted extensively throughout, to keep things well illuminated. Additionally, at the top of the stair, a Velux style window is fitted above the landing area, to enable additional natural lighting and ventilation. Internal doors of solid oak help to retain a period charm.
When walking through the front door, you enter a lovely modern kitchen, complete good cupboard storage, with spaces for fridge and washing machine, an electric hob, superb lighting and air extraction, plus the central heating radiator to keep things warm when required.
From the kitchen area you enter the bathroom, which is fitted with a quadrant shower cubicle, an eco flush toilet, a chromed vertical radiator, good lighting and extraction, wall fitted wash basin cabinet and surround, plus a window, and some under stairs storage.
Also leading from the kitchen area, are the stairs leading to the bedroom, cum living room, on the 1st floor. This area has to be utilised creatively to make sense, but it is more than possible, and contains the original red brick chimney breast, which used to house the washing cauldron in days gone by. There is an entrance to the small loft, where some smaller items can be stored.
If you are looking for a peaceful life, then this is the place for you, as this is a very quiet area in which to live. Additionally, with the property being detached, it means that you wont suffer from any noise from neighbours, and conversely they wont hear your music being played either!
The Bakehouse is tucked away from the road, behind the 3 cottages which front onto Bridle Rd, and is well hidden, so that even many locals don’t know it’s there. On the path to the property, a neighbour has video surveillance, along with automatic lighting at night, and so there has never been a problem with unwanted visitors in the vicinity.
Parking is on Bridle Rd itself, a cul-de-sac road, in front of the cottages, and rarely presents a problem I’m informed by tenants. There is a sizeable garden in front, and to the side of The Bakehouse, should any resident wish to exercise their green fingers, or sunbathe.
As for outgoings, unsurprisingly, the Council Tax band is A, whilst the water costs are low, as they are shared with 37, Bridle Rd, which is unmetered, and based on the old rateable values. Although unused by the present tenant, I believe that there is a BT connection at the property plus of course the gas and electricity supply.
The last 'Electrical Installation Condition Report' was carried out on 19th July 2017, and the last 'Landlord Gas Safety Record' carried out on 14th July 2020.
To recap, because of the size of the property, it is only suitable for one person, without any pets (Stick insects accepted!). If you have rented previously, then a reference from your former landlord would be of great help for everyone.
The house would be great as a base for someone who works in Telford during the week, and returns home at weekends, or somebody who works nights, where peaceful daytime sleep is required.
